Leibniz Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden (IPF)

The Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF) is one of the largest polymer research facilities in Germany. As an institute of the Leibniz Association, the IPF is committed to carrying out application-oriented fundamental research and receives its basic funding in equal parts from the federal and state governments. The approach is holistic, covering synthesis and modification of polymer materials, their characterization and theoretical investigation, up to processing and testing. A special feature of the institute’s activities is the close cooperation of scientists and engineers and a broad range of modern instruments and methods are available including pilot plants allowing material and technology development under industry-relevant conditions.

NANOCYL S.A

Nanocyl SA was founded in 2002 as a spin-off of two Belgian universities. It is currently the leading manufacturer of carbon nanotube (CNT) powders and CNT-based materials (compounds based on CNTs dispersed in different matrices) worldwide. Tampere University (TAU)

Tampere University (TAU), Finland, was created on 1 January 2019 as a merger of the Tampere University of Technology (TUT) and University of Tampere (UTA). The multidisciplinary, foundation-based Tampere University conducts scientific research in technology, health and society and provides the highest education within these fields.

Laboratory for Future Electronics (LFE) at TAU investigates technologies and solutions related to energy-autonomy, sensors, elastronics, and hybrid system integration. Strong emphasis is placed on scalable, low-cost manufacturing methods such as printing as well as their integration with more conventional component assembly methods. LFE explores new device and circuit approaches based on printable organic and metal oxide semiconductors.

Research group of Paper Converting and Packaging Technology (PCPT, part of Materials Science and Environmental Engineering) conducts research on paper, paperboard and polymer processing, converting, packaging and printing technology, wood-, fibre- and plastic-based materials and products. R&D is focused on (co)extrusion coating, laminating, dispersion coating, wet and melt spinning and their applications. The unit has over 20 years of experience in R&D of wide range of polymers and their processing including both petroleum- and bio-based polymers. The development challenges of today include for example high-barrier and thin coatings (e.g. ALD) and materials from renewable resources. The unique R2R pilot line provides tailored surface treatment and coating/lamination possibilities.

FOUNDATION OF RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY HELLAS (FORTH)

FORTH is the largest and most successful Research Institution in Greece (1125 personnel) incorporating seven Institutes. FORTH will participate in the InComEss project with the Ultrafast Laser Micro- and Nano-processing Laboratory (ULMNP) of the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (FORTH-IESL). ULMNP runs under the supervision of Dr. Emmanuel Stratakis who is a Research Director at IESL. The ULMNP group has extensive expertise in the field of ultrafast spectroscopy in optoelectronic and energy harvesting devices, while comprising highly skilled scientists who will carry out the proposed objectives and tasks described in the WPs of InComEss. The ULMNP facilities comprise state-of-the-art amplified ultrashort-pulsed laser systems, and advanced laser-based spectroscopy characterization techniques that assist the design and development of novel materials for next-generation energy harvesting applications.

BRUNNEL UNIVERSITY LONDON

Brunel University London is a dynamic institution with over 12,500 students and over 1,300 academic staff operating in a vibrant culture of research excellence, with a turnover of more than £200 million. The research for the InComEss project will be coordinated by the Centre for Heat Pipe and Thermal Management Research, which forms a part of the Institute of Energy Futures (IEF) at Brunel University London. The centre, lead by Professor Hussam Jouhara, is supported by various grants from the H2020 (iTherm, ETEKINA, DREAM and PVadapt) and from various major UK Research Councils and industrial grants currently totalling just above €8m. Prof. Jouhara is the technical coordinator of two H2020 projects, ETEKINA and PVadapt. The research group also has many other areas of strength, including heat pipes, advanced refrigeration and waste heat recovery technologies, as well as electrical power generation from renewable sources. Relevant to Incomess project Brunel University London is privileged to host a range of dedicated relevant technical equipment, including the computers with advanced capacity capable of conducting the simulations. In addition, BUL has constructed appropriate testing devices for TEG monitoring and performance evaluation, that will be utilized in the validation of the simulations.

Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS)

The Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS) is a non-profit academic research body established in 1989 by the Greek Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religion Affairs. It is closely associated with the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (SECE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) (est. 1837), which is the oldest and most prestigious academic institute in Greece.
